Roman walked across the living room today!
He's been practicing standing since 10 months, and taking steps since 10 1/2 months, but hadn't done more than four steps in a row before this morning. He was up at 5 a.m. and wanted to practice, and by 8 he was ramblin' across the room. He's still a bit unsteady, and unsure if this new mode of transportation is solely for show, and still crawls when he wants to motor quickly. But we are days away from a true toddler. (Video coming soon).
He can also say "puppy" (sort of...it kind of sounds like ba-pa but he knows what he's saying and only says it to request his stuffed puppy).
In other news, Christmas happened. Poor Anika had whispered to Santa, at the last minute, a few things that this mama elf didn't hear, and was disappointed that the magical Elfie and Santa forgot her singing Rainbow Dash backpack and her elf costume. Also, Santa messed up and the training wheels that "fits most 12-20" bikes" do not fit Anika's new bike. She's diligently trying to ride without them, and can go a few meters without someone holding onto the seat, but then tumbles to the ground in a heap that makes me want to cry. Reni adored everything he got from Santa, even the books, but has been most happy about his bicycle (which did come with training wheels) and his microscope. So far, we've looked at minion figurines, pieces of cardboard and hair, pebbles, ants (one that was still alive!) and three different types of sand. He's in seventh heaven. Last night he was watching YouTube videos on energy and I heard him repeating things like "ATP" and "glucose." Watch out for this one, folks. He's going to save the world. Just as soon as I can get him to stop peeing all over the bathroom.
In other news, I took all three kids to the dentist the 23rd. Because of course that would be fun, right? Actually, it WAS. While I filled out the paperwork, the kids got to request coloring pages that the receptionist printed from her computer. Anika asked for a superhero, and Reni wanted "the Great Wall of China." He had to settle for the planets instead, and then when he was done with that one, requested a picture of the Earth "with real countries."
When it was our turn, Reni went first, and was thrilled to go back by himself. As he walked out of the waiting room, holding the dental hygienist's hand, he looked up at her and said, loudly, "You don't have to drill holes into my teeth. I have been brushing. All the bacteria are gone."
They returned about 30 minutes later, Reni beaming and holding his new toothbrush, and the hygienist shaking her head and saying, "I wish my adult patients were half as good at this kid." Guess he asked questions and looked in the tiny mirror the entire time.
Then it was Anika's turn, and she skipped away happily (to get her TEETH CLEANED, PEOPLE!) She came back with stickers and a big smile and announced, "There was blood, but I wasn't scared!"
The hygienist looked at me, mouth agape, and said, "At this point, I'll do the 11 month-old!"
