Preschool and selfie fun

Reni finally got off the wait list for a great preschool program in Pullman, and he started last week. He's supposed to be potty trained, but he is STILL giving us a hard time and is inconsistent with #1 and completely noncompliant with #2 - to the point that it is now a huge fight to get his poopy pull-up changed.

(Sigh. I'm trying to be all Elsa and just 'let it go,' because the more I talk about it and try to encourage it, the more entrenched he becomes in his "I won't do it" mode. He comes up with excuses like, "it's too smelly! I need a candle!" and "I like Jake" - the character on his pull-up - "to catch the poopy for me" and "It takes too long." We put a candle in his bathroom, let him help with lighting it, and got exactly one tiny poo out of the production. It's something he can control, and he is definitely holding that over our heads).

Anyway, the new preschool staff are absolute saints and told me that they would encourage his potty training and be lax on the "must be potty trained" rule (shhhh, don't tell the other parents).

It's a Tuesday-Thursday morning program, and today being Veteran's Day means that this Thursday will only be his second class. But his first day last week could not have gone better. He painted a picture, he built roads and drove cars and played with dinosaurs and sang songs and counted to 14 and ate goldfish and ran around on the playground. Also, he discovered a little thing called a urinal.

He's never been in a proper boy's bathroom before, as I always drag him and Anika with me to the women's loo. The little pint-sized urinals struck me as hilarious, and their flushing mechanisms - combined with the awesome fact that you can PEE STANDING UP!! - had my little man entranced. He peed into the urinal at drop-off time, and apparently he left the playground during recess (!!!!!????) to go pee there again.

Hey, maybe I just need to install a urinal in the kids' bathroom.

I'm so incredibly sore and exhausted lately that Reni and I have made up a new game where I go take a 'nap' (i.e. lie in bed for 10 minutes), he joins me to 'sleep' (i.e. climb on top of me, kiss the baby, bonk my nose with his knee and pretend to snore and make farting noises and laugh because he is so gosh darn hilarious) and then we take photos on mama's phone. He loves watching himself laugh in the camera. He's pretty gosh darn cute.
