With all the huballoo about the first day of preschool, I completely spaced that Reni had his very first hair cut! (Last week, but shush, already, I'm documenting it here and I took a few pictures, ok?)
He is blessed with his father's thick, chia-growing-strength hair, and it was starting to rest way below his collar and playing tango with his unfairly-long eyelashes. So we called up Grandma Debbie, my friend Katie's mom who is our New Mexico stand-in Grandma, to do the job.
Here is the little man after his hair cut. I had to hold him during the cutting itself, and he did so much head shifting that I'm amazed Debbie was able to cut remotely in a straight line:
And here is my little hirsute-challenged daughter, with only her second hair cut in 2.5 years, acting like a little pro:
She is now sporting a mullet-free (hallelujah!) bob with side bangs that just curls slightly under at the ends. It's still thin and still sticks straight up in the morning and still impossible to get her to keep a barrette or pony tail in for longer than five minutes, but we're getting somewhere! (Not that I care, really, although where we live there are so many kids that I swear must come out of the womb with long, thick, luxurious hair that their moms then style in these elaborate updos and with cute little accessories, and between Anika's rag-tag mess and the battle to keep food bits out of Reni's hair and the fact that I'm lucky to shower most days, we make quite a sight for sore eyes when we're just running to the grocery store or something.)
Lookit the little boy hair! It's adorable!
