Dearly beloved,
We are gathered here today to celebrate the life and times of the old shaggy blue carpet of Waverly Place NW. Oh, it had its glory days, I'm sure, in the early 1990s when it coordinated perfectly with the floral wallpaper and the frilly window coverings, and we all know about its love affair with the plastic-covered damask furniture. Then there were the years of the abusive relationships, when she started to show some wear and tear from the cat and two dogs who nestled into her fluffy fibers, threw up things that tasted good at the time but didn't settle well, and had accidents that the aging residents may or may not have used enough Resolve to clean up properly. Her formeldahyde-soaked pad lost its stickiness, and she was down to threads in the hallways where she was constantly trodden. Always upbeat, she took everything from the constant vacuuming to the sunspots in stride, and even the realtor was surprised at her quality when we moved in. I have to admit, we hated her at first, but over time her worn demeanor and fuzzy dirtiness became a sort of comfort, especially when she caught our daughter during her many tumbles. And we have to admit we didn't treat her very well, as we contributed to much of the wear and tear over her last month. She did her best trying to hide the margarita stains, paint splatters and goldfish cracker bits, but in the end, she knew it was her time. She let go gracefully, and we are grateful that she is now in a better place.
And yay, we have new floors!!!
