ISO: magic wand

Imagine moving criss-cross the country in an 18 month span, from southwest to midwest to northwest to midwest and then southeast, hauling three kids (one in utero for first two criss-crosses), two cars, your belongings, and a hefty dose of the complete unknown, and you've pretty much summed up the last year and a half of our lives. Oh, add lots of coffee and some wine and some pretty amazing kids and supportive family, and that about covers how we've been surviving.

We are thrilled with the company Armando found for his next professional endeavor, and actually really psyched to be headed to Miami for what I am sincerely hoping is at least three years, and maybe even more. Imagine not having to pack and unpack for years, for being able to paint walls again and plant herbs and trees again and make lasting friendships again. I dwell on these positives as I wonder how we're going to get everyone signed up for school and find a decent apartment at a reasonable price when neither Armando nor I will be in Miami for the next three weeks and school starts in two. I try not to get a logistical headache as I ponder moving the piano from Albuquerque, the furniture from our storage in Spokane, and our clothes and the kids' toys from my parents' house. I try not to worry as Armando adds countries like Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Venezuela to his list of upcoming work trips.

I try to focus on things like this: telling the kids about palm trees and coconuts, fresh seafood and fresh sea air, freshly-pulped fruit juices and sunshine and a complete and total lack of snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures of any kind. Swimming pools and tide pools, jumping salty waves in the ocean and day trips to Disney. It's gonna be awesome, as Reni says, and I know it will. We just need to get there. Can I get my magic wand already? Or perhaps a pair of red glittery shoes to click together?
