Today Anika proved that she is, indeed, half Latina.
We attended a dance and sing-along at the downtown library, and while you could mostly tell the regulars from the newbies, Ani decided to get down and jiggy with it even though it was her first time in the class.
While her friend Sami spent the majority of the class glued to her mom's side, Ani stood THISCLOSE to the teacher and mimicked her every move. She flowed through the yoga poses, she bounced her knees, she hopped on one leg, she snapped her arms like an alligator, she shimmied around the room with maracas, she was the first one to grab hold of the parachute and shaka-shaka-shaka, and she skipped from one side of the room to the other as the reggae music played. I don't know if it's all the Dora-watching or if she is indeed capable of following instructions (just not those flowing out of her mama's mouth, clearly), but I couldn't stop smiling at how happy she was. Perhaps Montessori or some sort of preschool for independent souls is in our near future.
(this is what she does when you say "yoga!")
