Smiles! (and an Elmo backpack, because you can never have too much Elmo)

Here is Anika's newest obsession:

True to form, she likes to run with her backpack on. And then stop running, attempt to take off the pack herself, get frustrated and somehow tangle the straps into some sort of shipping knot, then re-discover the zipper and start trying to deconstruct the why's and how's of zipper functionality. Then she fills the backpack with a crusty leftover peanut butter sandwich, your car keys that you were sure you had by the door so you don't have to scramble for an additional ten minutes looking for them when it's time to leave, already, some mega blocks and the scissors that she reached by taking her chair over and climbing up onto the counter.

And here is Mr. Man making some of his many faces. It's hard to catch him with a full-on smile, mostly because you don't have the camera on hand, and if you did, you don't have a free hand to operate the darn thing, and even if you do it's probably out of juice, and even if it's in working order Anika is probably at the other end of the room attacking it with the nail clippers. But hey, today we had some free time and we got this little montage:

Hi, mom! I've been smiling for the past ten minutes, but now that you're in my face with this strange contraption, I'm not sure I have any more smiles left in me. I'll give you a half-smile while I think about it, how is that?

Ok, fine, if I start mimicking your faces will you knock it off? I need to nap already! Here, how is this? Is this what you'd like to see? No? Too much like a sneeze?

 Humph. Tough crowd.
Oooh, I kind of like it when you tickle my tummy!

Ahahahahah!!
