Introducing Baby Brother

Renato Elia Morillo made his debut at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 25th, 2011, weighing in at 8 pounds 11 ounces and 20.5 inches long. He is absolutely adorable and we fell instantly in love. We are also glad that we induced early, as even the ultrasound didn't realize he was that big.

Here is the little man now. So far, he's a mellow fellow. Eats well, sleeps well, and is even starting to take a pacifier! (Hallelujah on that one, as Ani would never do it and it really makes self-soothing an actual possibility).

A word about his name, as most of you know that we entered the hospital, spent 27 hours in active labor, and another 16 hours in the recovery room trying to decide what his name would be. Nothing on my list (a crumpled piece of paper I'd diligently packed along with my bag of things you never end up needing while you're in the labor & delivery unit -- hello, an iPod and slippers? Sheesh, what was I thinking?!) seemed to suit him, and everything Armando came up with just seemed ridiculous to me in my pitocin-dosed state (Jurgin? Really?!) And then we discovered Renato (Ray-NAH-toe). A bit of Brazilian soccer player meets tribute to my late Grandpa Ron. It's fun, it's exotic, and we can call him Reni (wren-ee). His middle name (ahh-LEE-uh) is a derivative of Armando's middle name, which is fitting since Ani and I share the same middle name. It is already utterly impossible to imagine life without him, and despite the exhaustion, we are all beyond happy.

(Also, more photos are pending. Grandma has a bunch on her camera and Mando has some on his phone from the first few minutes of Reni's life, but we have yet to get our act together here. I can barely make time to go to the bathroom, truth be told, but somehow all of this will seem normal soon).

  1. He's beautiful! We're in love, too. I adore those cheeks. And thanks for the pronounciation guide and name explanation. Makes sense now. Hope you are getting some sleep!
