We are having a little boy!
He is already 20 oz and the length of a banana (thank you, babycenter.com, for all of your fruit-basket analogies) and everything from his ten little fingers and ten little toes to his spine and spleen and everything in between is absolutely perfect. It's amazing what they can see with an ultrasound; we got to watch the blood flow out of his aortic valve into the rest of his body, see the fluids pass in and out of the umbilical cord, and examine everything from his liver to his heart ventricles to his cerebral cortex. Pretty cool. He also gave us a little inkling of the difference between girls and boys, even in utero: while Anika at this point in her gestation crossed and uncrossed her legs, making it almost impossible to see what sex she was, this little guy actually had his hand down there. "Yup, he knows it's there," joked the ultrasound tech.
He moved so much during the ultrasound that the tech commented, "I've rarely seen one move so much -- he was all over the place and in pretty much every position a baby can take in there!" So I have a feeling we're in no need of gym memberships for the foreseeable future; Mando and I can just chase the kids around. When they are not sick and coughing up what sounds to be one of their lungs, that is, as poor Anika is doing at the moment. Man, I hope these antibiotics kick in for the poor kid soon.
Yippeeeeee!!!! I am so excited for my little nephew!
ReplyDeleteHave any pictures? I want to see!
ReplyDeleteHi Bec -- we did get a few pictures but they didn't turn out so great. Clear shot of the boy parts and one good one of the feet, but his face looks like a Halloween mask at the moment. We will get another one in a month or so, and will cross our fingers that he's more photogenic (and less lively) for this one :-) Do you have yours scheduled yet?
