Happy New Year to you all!
We missed the actual turning of the New Year again this year, but at least we made it close -- I think it was about 11 p.m. when we crashed into our bed, turned to each other, and said, feebly, Happy New Year, before passing out from sheer exhaustion. I mean, c'mon, we haven't stayed up that late since, well, since Anika was born. Wow. That is pathetic. Anika nearly outlasted us, if you really want to know the truth.
We also went out on our first official date without the little one on New Year's Eve. Anika stayed with our friend Kim and had a good time practicing her walk, learning how to make taquitos, and terrorizing their two little dogs with her newfound barking skills. It's shrill and it's extremely high-pitched but it is indeed a bark, which is kind of hilarious. She has this Little Red Riding Hood book where LLRH is accompanied by her little blue dog, and every time she sees that book she points to the dog and barks. It's more like a yark, actually, but it is adorable. As long as you're not a dog with super-duper acute hearing, that is.
Here we are, kid-less and five hours before the New Year, celebrating with our Shirley Temple (me, obviously) and martini and cigar (him, obviously):
