All I can say is, thank you, social networking.
In a brand-new city and stuck in a hotel room the size of a generous Manhattan studio apartment, one can begin to feel a bit lonely at times. Add a baby who relies on you for absolutely everything, and the stress of buying a house and keeping a business afloat, and you've pretty much got our situation right now.
Enter meetup.com. One of my friends in DC told me about it, saying she'd heard of people making good friends through the site, so I checked it out the other day. Turns out there's several "mommy" groups in the ABQ area, and one specifically that caters to moms who want to work out and socialize together.
Two days later, and I've got a bunch of cool women to hang out with, a regular yoga teaching gig and some very sore muscles.
Anika also seems to enjoy it, as she has actually gotten a real nap out of the deal (apparently mom running with stroller = soothing way to fall asleep) and enjoys observing the other moms and kids. It will be great for her as she gets older, too.
We also did a bit of exploring the other day, strolling through Old Town and having lunch at a little cafe that was originally built in 1709 as a residence. Delicious local fare and a little Dutch girl (I think...couldn't really put my finger on the exact language) sitting with her family at the table across from us really got a kick out of Anika.
